Guest coaches set to lead camps

The annual Elite Volleyball Camp arrives at SHS July 19-22

Three veteran Texas high school coaches are set to teach a pair of summer sports camps at Springtown High in July.

First comes Will Flemons, head boys hoops coach at Brazoswood High. Before playing professionally overseas, Flemons was a two-time Southwest Conference Player of the Year in 1991-92. He coached at Bucknell and Wayland Baptist Universities before Brazoswood.

This elite camp runs July 13-16, is for incoming 10th-12th graders, and costs $50.

The next week, July 19-22, coaches Julie Green and Hollie Smith return to Springtown.

Both helm successful high school programs.

Green, who earlier had coaching stops in Springtown and Azle, leads the potent Lake Travis Lady Cavs near Austin. In 2009, Green’s squad advanced to the Region IV 4A regional finals before falling, going a remarkable 46-4 for the season, including 26 victories in a row. Lake Travis finished No. 5 in Texas in 4A.

Smith, the Elgin High head coach from the SHS Class of ‘98, has led the Lady Wildcats to several successful seasons.

The fee for the elite volleyball camp is $100.

Day of camp registration is okay for both events.
