Camp start of football season

Camp start of football season

This scene from last year’s scrimmage with Springtown coaches keeping close watch

While the actual beginning of the 2010 high school football season starts Aug. 9 for Springtown when two-a-day practices arrive, it really kicks off Aug. 2.

That’s when SHS head coach Brad Turner and assistants will lead freshmen Porcupines through “Football II” – a camp set to run from Aug. 2-6.

The fee for the camp – slated for the Multi-Purpose Center on the Springtown High campus – is $50. The camp runs from 8-11:30 a.m.

The next Monday, Aug. 9, scores of Porcupines report early in the morning for the first two-a-day workouts of the year.

The first and only scrimmage sends Springtown to Decatur.

The Porkys should get used to hitting the road; only one home game is set before October.

The season opens at Frisco’s Pizza Hut Park against new school Heritage. Then comes a trip to Alvarado, Homecoming against Bridgeport, an open date, and the 5-4A opener at Brewer. The next home game? Mighty Aledo.
