Administrators ready for new office space

Springtown ISD board members

SISD officials to move into new digs July 30

There’s a lot to like about Springtown ISD’s new administrative offices.

This Friday, SISD administrators are set to move into their new office space at Watson Elementary School.

Roughly $390,000 worth of renovations at Watson’s 10,000 square foot “white building” annex have paved the way.

The old gymnasium has been converted into a state-of-the-art board meeting room and training facility – complete with a huge 12 foot by 12 foot video screen.

Things just got a lot more convenient said Superintendent Andrea Hungerford, who along with a staff of 12 are moving from the old office on 2nd Street.

“I love the fact that the district will have a new meeting room in which to hold the board meetings,” Hungerford said. “Currently, the maintenance department has to set up the tables, chairs and sound system for each meeting. And for special meetings and receptions, the Central Services staff must haul all materials and supplies to the meeting location. All of this takes valuable time away from their other tasks.”

Hungerford said she’s most pleased with the fact that the district will have space for development and
training.

“Campuses will no longer have their schedules interrupted in order to training to take place in the district,” she said. “During the past couple of years, the district has provided several opportunities for teachers to receive training through the summer months. It can sometimes be a challenge to find a location to hold the training sessions while working around routine summer maintenance. Of course, we have not been able to test it out yet, but think that the room can easily accommodate 200-250 participants.

“More space is definitely a big plus in the new building,” Hungerford said.

Hungerford said she also likes the fact that most of the district’s administrative staff is all together on one site. The old 5,000 square foot office space didn’t’ offer that option.

“With the exception of transportation and food service, all central office staff will be located in the same area,” she said.

Special Education and Technology offices are already located in the old red brick building on the Watson campus.

“Having everyone centrally located makes it easier to serve the community and district staff members,” Hungerford said.

Bobby Phillips, construction manager for Gallagher and Associates, said work is underway to add an addition 49 parking spots to the Watson campus.

He, himself, marveled at the new office space, creamed colored walls, wide hallways and, of course, the big screen.

“This facility is well deserved for the board and this community,” he said.
