Springtown grad to perform at 2012 London Olympics

Springtown graduate Grant Newton will perform with Winds of Triumph, a musical ensemble of Howard Payne University music students, at events associated with the 2012 Olympic Games. Above, he performs a solo with Winds of Triumph during a spring fundraiser

Springtown graduate Grant Newman will perform with the Howard Payne University musical ensemble Winds of Triumph in London, in conjunction with the 2012 Olympic Games.
The London performances are Aug. 3, and Aug. 5-8.
Winds of Triumph is one of only five university musical groups from the U.S. that have been invited to perform at the Olympics, according to information provided by the university.

The performers left Brownwood, where HPU is located, early Aug. 1.
Newman, a senior, and Winds of Triumph will perform in venues licensed for audiences of 30,000 people, Stephen Goacher said. Goacher is professor music and director of Winds of Triumph.
