| Fall sports begin Aug. 6 Wednesday, August 01, 2012 MARK K. CAMPBELL Two-a-days loom for FB, VB
Hard to believe but it’s already time to get ready for fall sports.
Both SHS volleyball and football begin two-a-day practices Monday, Aug. 6. With Springtown dropping to 3A after last February’s biennial University Interscholastic League realignment, the football Porcupines were no longer permitted to conduct spring practices. The upside is that not only do the squads start a week early, Springtown gets to compete in two scrimmages, rather than the one when SHS was a 4A competitor. On Aug. 11, the Spectacular Springtown Spirit Day arrives. As the volleyball team hosts scrimmages at the SHS gym beginning at 9 a.m., a silent auction will also be conducted. Later that afternoon, the football squads will conduct intrasquad scrimmages at Porcupines Stadium. Silent and live auctions will be held as well as an ice cream social following the scrimmages. Season ticketsNo ticket pre-sales will be offered for football this season.
Reserve seating sales begin Aug. 20 at the SISD Administrative Offices at 301 East 5th Street. Football tickets are $7 per game, $35 for the season. This year, Springtown will host: • Liberty Christian – Aug. 31 • Decatur – Sept. 7 •Gainesville – Sept. 21, Homecoming • Castleberry – Oct. 19, Hall of Fame Game • Mineral Wells – Nov. 2, Senior Night All home games start at 7:30 p.m. Student tickets cost $3. Adult tickets for other sports at the high school level – an adult is anyone who has graduated high school – are $4. It’s $2 for students. Those SHS sports: volleyball, basketball, wrestling, soccer, baseball, softball, and track. Fees for middle school volleyball, football, and basketball are $3 for adults and $2 for students. Forms A quartet of forms can be found under the “Athletics” tab at www.springtownisd.net including the required Concussion Acknowledgement Form that must be signed by the student-athlete and a parent or guardian. Physical evaluation and medical forms, a steroid use agreement, and a rules acknowledgement form are also online. Regular season play Volleyball begins “games that count” at home Tuesday, Aug. 14 against Argyle. The varsity Lady Porcupines will play tournaments at Peaster, and Argyle. District and non-district matches will follow a frosh/JV/varsity format. Football freshman and JV squads will play Thursdays. |
