Church donates school supplies to local students

Hope Lutheran Church, located on State Highway 199 between Azle and Springtown, collected school supplies for needy children in both school districts.

Hope Lutheran Church in Springtown collected more than 1,500 school supplies items to be donated to the Springtown and Azle school districts for distribution to needy students.
The items collected included spiral notebooks, loose-leaf notebook paper, folders, pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, and glue.
The church, which has approximately 18 active families, divided into two teams for a friendly competition to collect the most school supplies.

The competition ran from July 8 through Aug. 19. The team that collected the largest number of items earned bragging right.
The losing team will supply all the food for the church’s monthly potluck luncheon on the first Sunday in September.
“With all the kids that will be given school supplies, there really are no losers,” one church member said.
The collected supplies were delivered to the school districts before the beginning of school on Aug. 27.
Hope Lutheran Church is located halfway between Springtown and Azle, at 4795 East HW 199. The church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Worship services are held each Sunday at 10 a.m., with Sunday School and Bible Study classes at 9 a.m.
