SHS off to a 7-1 start with Argyle tournament looming

Out of the blocks quickly, this season’s Lady Porcupine volleyball team has already landed a trophy.

It’s a nice one, too – the championship award for winning the Peaster tournament Aug. 24-25.
Before playing at the Peaster event, SHS tangled with the Lady Hounds in a tough non-district match, winning 25-22, 23-25, 27-27, 29-27.
Coach Leighann Strickland said her squad competed in a different rotation for games one and two.
Katelyn Smith, up from the JV, shone as did Katelynn Mainord who killed a team-high 11 balls.
In pool play at the tourney, Springtown swept Maypearl, 25-9. 25-22 behind 7 kills, 5 digs, and 3.5 blocks from Becca Dauenhauer, en route to All-Tournament recognition.

Bowie fell next, 25-12, 25-12, behind Shelbi Meek’s 7 kills and 9 assists.
