| SHS 4-1 in first tourney Wednesday, March 03, 2010 Mark K. Campbell
The 2010 baseball season, just beginning under new coach Josh Strickland, went 4-1 at the North Texas Tournament of Champions in Graham.
In the tourney opener, Springtown (5-1) jumped out to a 9-4 lead over Bridgeport after three innings and held off the Bulls, winning 9-8.
Bobby Jo Tennison and Alex Tyre doubled for SHS. Brandon Nesselrode (1-0) got the win with relief help from Justin Loraus. Next, Culley Callaway (1-0) won a close one over Lake Worth, 2-1. The Porcupines scored in the first inning and got the game-winner in the fifth. Another clash with the Bullfrogs was also won by Springtown, 9-7. SHS made the most of five hits – Lake Worth committed three errors once again – and Dustin Rowe (1-0) was the victorious pitcher. Tennison hurled in the fifth to catcher Loraus.
In the tournament finale Feb. 27, the Porcupines bats woke up and SHS collected 11 hits en route to a 14-4 victory over Sanger. Caden Cowan walloped a homer and Loraus rapped a pair of doubles. Callaway also drilled a two-bagger as Tennison got his second victory of the season; Cowan relieved in the third. |
