| SHS’ Pugh returning to state powerlifting meet Wednesday, March 03, 2010 Mark K. Campbell ![]() Stephanie Pugh will again enjoy Spring Break at the Texas coast – once more as a competitor. A trio of Lady Porcupines competed at the regional powerlifting meet at Leonard High Feb. 27.
The threesome – Pugh, Kayla Martin, and Shayna Petersen – all placed.
Pugh earned a berth at the state meet in Corpus Christi March 19-20. She competed there last year, moving 680 pounds in the three required lifts – bench, squat, and dead lift. That’s the total she reached at Leonard this year: 300 in the dead lift, 260 in the squat, and 120 on the bench. At regional, Pugh finished eighth in the 148-pound class and not only earned a trip to Corpus but was the top 4A lifter in her division.
Martin, who also competed at 148, finished ninth overall and was the second best 4A lifter at the meet. Petersen, in the 97-pound classification, took sixth overall in Leonard. In 2009, Pugh traveled to the state meet with graduated Lady Porcupine Danielle Theisen. |
