Leonard Max Hinkle, 78, a retired electronics technician, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at home.
Memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Springtown. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Springtown, P.O. Box 266, Springtown, TX 76082.
Max Hinkle was born May 24, 1934, in Poolville, Texas. He graduated from Springtown High School and Weatherford Jr. College and attended Texas Tech. He served in the United States Air Force 1954-58 and was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for 34 years. He then worked for Raytheon Service Company installing electronic equipment in three air traffic control towers at DFW. During the 1970’s he was a disc jockey for KMWT and chief engineer for KORC radio stations in Mineral Wells. He was amateur-radio operator W5EBB, an avid builder of many things, the ultimate handyman, and a singer and musician with a special love of gospel and blue-grass music. He was the lead singer of the Centralaires Gospel Quartet for 17 years. He lived 36 years in Mineral Wells and the last 23 years resided in Springtown where he and wife enjoyed their farm, horses and raising cattle. They shared several adventures traveling in the United States, Europe, Canada, Alaska and the Caribbean. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springtown where he sang in the Gospel Quartet and the choir. He experienced several challenges in his life and met all with great faith, courage and determination. He was a true inspiration to many people. Max was preceeded in death by his parents. Leonard and Marie Hinkle; his second mother, Oneeta Culwell Hinkle; and step-son and his wife, Duane and Desiree Martin. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jeff Griggs; son and daughter-in-law, Marshall and Janet Hinkle; daughter, Lea Turner; grandchildren, Joel, Karie, Justen, Brittany, Cami, Dustin, Sam, Cole; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Karli, Aric, Kash, London; step-son, David Martin; step-grandsons, Kevin and Adam; brother-in-law and wife, Ray and Janet Copeland; mother of his children, Laveta Singleton; several cousins; wonderful friends and loving church family. |
