A Springtown woman died Monday in a car crash on Farm-to-Market Road 51.
Melanie Scott, 39, was pronounced dead by a Life Care EMT service supervisor and was transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. She was accompanied in her vehicle by a 10-year-old female passenger, also of Springtown.
DPS reported that a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Scott, was traveling west on Old Springtown Road just after 7:30 a.m. and attempted to turn south on FM 51, 4 miles north of Weatherford. Meanwhile, a 2015 Kenworth T880 was traveling north on FM 51 and had the right of way. The Chevrolet failed to yield right of way to oncoming traffic, and the Kenworth struck the Chevrolet on the driver’s side, DPS reported.
The child passenger in the Chevrolet was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth with incapacitating injuries.
The driver of the Kenworth – Clay Sears, 27, of Weatherford – was not injured, according to the news release.
DPS stated in the release that this is an ongoing investigation.
