Reno proposes unchanged rate

The tax rate will likely remain unchanged in the city of Reno. The city council proposed a rate of $0.52 per $100 valuation Monday, Aug. 27.

That rate is the same as 2017-18 and slightly higher than the effective rate – the rate at which the city would collect the same amount of taxes as the previous year – of $0.506402.

It is more than two cents lower than the rollback rate of $0.540604.

The rate will garner the city an additional 4.39 percent – or $21,162 – over last year’s revenue.

Wild West Fest ready to ride

Springtown’s biggest festival is less than three weeks away.

The 34th Annual Wild West Fest will take over the Springtown Square Saturday, Sept. 15.

The event’s activities get underway the night before with a cornhole tournament.

Entry for teams will cost $40 and will be accepted until 7:30 p.m.

The contest begins at 8 p.m. Sept. 14 and will be held behind Brookshire’s – which is also the site of the 19th Annual Wild West Fest BBQ Cook-Off.

SISD board OK’s 2018-19 budget

The benefits of last year’s “swap and drop” tax ratification election continue to show in Springtown ISD.

During a public hearing Aug. 27 on the 2018-19 budget, the district’s Chief Financial Officer Gary Shaw described their financial situation as “the best it’s been in years – possibly ever.”

Later that night, the board of trustees unanimously adopted a budget of nearly $37.9 million – an increase of nearly $2.8 million over the 2017-18 year funded by the same tax rate of $1.359 per $100 valuation.
